Society
The Society was formed in
1964 by a group of both professional and amateur enthusiasts, who
recognized the need for such a group in this area of great geological
interest. This mix of people from all backgrounds has remained a feature
of the Society to this day and gives it a friendly relaxed atmosphere
which appeals to newcomers.
The Society is based at Nottingham
University.
The Society is affiliated
to the Geologists Association and enjoys cordial relations with other geological societies. The British Geological Survey is based
within our area at Keyworth and we are proud of our connections with
the geologists there, several of whom have served or are serving on
the Council.
The Society is open to all,
and has a much less regional approach than many 'local' societies;
so wherever you live, come and join us!
The Society offers members
- Six lectures each year
- Six field trips each year
- The Mercian Geologist, a scientific journal
- Regular news letters
- Information on other geological events
